Rarely does a moment come along in which a President's entire stay in office, and history's subsequent portrayal of that time, is encapsulated in a single act.

When that angry arab journalist threw a shoe at Bush, I felt a mixture of emotions. Happiness, that someone had finally tried to bruise the President, and sadness that it wasn't me.

History will vindicate that Arab journalist.

Holiday Energy-Saving Tip #387

You know how when you're wrapping gifts, and you find yourself sitting in a pool of scrap paper about an inch thick because it would be unseemly to have too much wrapping on a gift?

Well, if you're me, you take those scraps and a bunch of scotch tape, and you use it to make what I affectionately call "Frankenpresent."

To show how cheap you really are, you can also use the scraps you saved from birthday presents (given and recieved.) Voila! As long as you don't give anything too big, you never have to buy wrapping paper again.

The Late Great Bettie Page

Pin-up model and 50s Sexual Repression Bursting Point Icon Bettie Page died on December 11 (my birthday, but that is a total coincidence).
Looking through my portfolio and seeing a great gaping hole in my pin-up catrgory, I decided there was no better place to start than to memorialize the Notorious Bettie Page.
Long Live Bettie Page.

Charleston Mag

I did this piece for Charleston Home magazine. I didn't get paid, but frankly, for my first regional editorial publication, I think it came out pretty good. You can see my credit on the bottom here.
Vanity is all.

Christmas Comes Early to DC

For some of us, Christmas came on November 4th, and we got to open presents a little before 11 PM. We had parties and got giddy over the proverbial eggnog.
For others, Christmas comes when Obama Claus comes riding into town on his eight cable news networks and announces that they all get Cabinet positions.
And of course, it's almost like another Christmas comes around on January 20th, when we get the present that we all really wanted.
Eggnog sales are expected to rise exponentially in the coming weeks.

Cave Art

I'm retooling my web page (phostetler.com), so I figured, hey, let's really start at the beginning.

Barack gets his daughters a puppy

This is how his daughters heard his acceptance speech.

O For Victory!

Obama wins! For a printable copy of this to hang in your window or car, or to staple all over town in celebration, just e-mail me.

Steamroller!

As a psychic, I hereby call the race for Barack Obama. He will flatten McCain with the sheer pressure of his votes.

Subject of Interest

A cartoon on the financial baggage that the modern college student carries after graduation.
This could be worth $1000 to me. All I need is your vote.

Go to http://www.creditcardreform.org/contest/ and vote for my entry. There's still time!!!!!

A promotional piece. Made to advertise a website coming soon.

The G.O.P.Father II

One day, very soon, if it hasn't happened already, John McCain will wake up and find that the party he's been a proud member of for the past 13,493 years is dead, and that the blood is on his hands. Presumably, he'll freak out as much as Jack Woltz did.

25 More Days?

McCain is 10 points behind in the polls. Forgive me, but I believe John McCain is a nice guy at heart, and the things that have been done in his name these last few months just makes me feel sorry for the guy. We're what, 90% sure Obama is going to win? Why not call the whole thing off and give the guy a break?

One Day As A Lion

In my humble opinion, Zack de la Rocha is one of the most expressive musicians working today. He deserves all sorts of accolades for his music.

Book Sale

Book sale at the Kent County Public Library, Chestertown branch from October 24th to October 26th.

Heroes and Villains

I don't watch the show, but I needed a relevant context for the whole, "Obama is staying as cool as a cucumber while McCain is in danger of bursting like an over-heated hot-pocket" metaphor.

Apologies to Gerald Scarfe for stealing the title of his book for my little blog.

Biden 'n' Palin

I watched the debate last night. Biden stayed on target. Palin... Well, that depends on what your definition of target is. If you mean the party rhetoric, then she was very on-target. If you mean actually answering questions, then she ought to have her gun license revoked.

The trees talk in Alaska!

Watching her on TV these past few weeks, Sarah Palin doesn't seem to be quite...in tune with reality. It's like she lives in her own imaginary land full of witches and cheap oil, with no newspapers or Supreme Court. And her performance is continuously so atrociously sloppy it's like watching...a cartoon.

Caricatures

I watched some TV this week. In order: Dimitri Martin, John McCain, Keith Olbermann, and Stephen Colbert.

Greasy Lightning

More cardboard. Halfway through, I realized this was the corrugated side. But it said "Inspector #72" on the other side. Honestly, you can't tell until the scanner gets done with it.
This is the computer-modified version.

Zeus is Loose!

Another cardboard painting. I don't have any more left, so I guess I'll have to start ordering more stuff from Amazon again.

The Dude abides

The Dude must be painted on cardboard. He would never lower (or is it raise?) himself to the level of actual canvas.

Another library poster. I don't get paid for these, but this time, I got a slice of cake.

The Uke Box

I recently took up the ukulele. Despite the rain and clouds outside my window (or perhaps because of them) I feel like I'm walking on sunshine.

No more videos

I don't know if it's the server, the computer, or my Flash program, but when I posted my cartoons, they looks like crap. So no more animation posts. Perhaps you'll be able to see them on Youtube later.

Clint

9"x 12"
Acrylic and ink on cardboard.
I love down and dirty art. It's practically free, this stuff is.
I remembered after the fact that Clint did not always look like he was carved out of chunk of hickory.

Art! Science!

Here's the first part of the cartoon I made for my uncle's presentation. Not bad, when you think about the fact that I had never used Flash before. It's more than awesome being able to see your drawings come to life, even in only two dimensions.

For your viewing pleasure, put this on a loop.

Science! Art!

Anyhoo, these are a few flash cartoons I made for my uncle Jerry, who manages the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach (I drop names). It's supposed to be about artists and scientists collaborating to get information across to the public.

Love Parade is coming up

I've posted this before, but Love Parade is actually coming up in the next few weeks to give certain portions of Germany massive hangovers.

hummingbird

This was a book cover for a contest that I simply didn't have time to enter. So I finished it at my own pace.

Jazz up your garden

My most recent volunteer illustration.

Anubis

I was housesitting for my librarian this weekend, feeding her cats and such, when the whiskers got to me and I went on an Egyptian bent. Since I couldn't remember much about Bast, the cat-headed Goddess, I did Anubis instead. I prefer canines.

Vote for the Colt 45 can

Go to The Tales of Colt 45 website and vote for this design. There are lots of cool ones up, but trust me, this one is best.

Damn it feels good to be a Joker

Mea culpa. I've caught Joker fever. Frankly, I don't see why they have to go and ruin the movie by putting that black-pleather trainwreck Batman in it; villians are always more fun.

sketches

Went to Edmonton a few weeks ago. That's in Canada. And what do you do in Edmonton? Why, draw people in the airport and visit a Japanese garden!
Airports are great places to sketch. Usually seats are positioned so that you can't help but look at the people across from you. Nobody moves while they're waiting for a flight, and there's such a motley variety of travellers to choose from.

I'm takin' my stuff with me

George Carlin once said that wherever you think you go when you die, that's where you end up. If you think you're going to hell to be with your friends, you'll be there. If you think you're going to heaven, you'll be there too--but don't expect to see your friends. Then he went on to say that when he dies, he's going to a public toilet in Honduras.
To be with his friends.

A cute image. I made it for the website I'm putting together. Stay posted for more details.
